5. What injuries are common in commercial truck accidents?
Injuries from commercial truck accidents are often severe because of the enormous size and force involved in these collisions. Traumatic brain injuries are among the most common and serious outcomes, ranging from concussions to permanent cognitive impairment. Even when a victim does not lose consciousness, the sudden impact can cause lasting memory, concentration, and personality changes that affect every part of daily life.
Spinal cord and back injuries are also frequent in truck crashes. These may include herniated discs, fractured vertebrae, nerve damage, or complete paralysis in the most serious cases. Such injuries often require surgery, long-term rehabilitation, and ongoing pain management, and they can permanently limit mobility, independence, and the ability to work.
Broken bones and internal injuries are another common result of high-impact truck collisions. Arms, legs, ribs, and pelvic fractures occur frequently, and multiple fractures in the same accident are not unusual. Internal injuries such as organ damage or internal bleeding can be life-threatening and may not be immediately apparent, making prompt medical evaluation critical after any truck accident.
Finally, soft tissue injuries and psychological trauma should not be overlooked. Whiplash, muscle tears, and ligament damage can cause chronic pain and restricted movement long after the crash. Many victims also suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, or depression following a violent collision. These emotional injuries, while less visible, can be just as disruptive and deserve serious attention and treatment.
